It’s all about speed. Their light weight allows them to glide across the lake’s surface as if it were glass.
Boats, that race to speeds of up to 105 miles per hour, will roar across Pontiac Lake in Waterford again this year for Oakland County’s 17th annual Quake on the Lake from July 22-24th.
Grand Prix drivers from across the country will race across Pontiac Lake in Inboard Hydroplane boats, competing for a spot in the record books. In fact, Quake on the Lake holds 21 American Power Boat Association (APBA) records for speed in five different racing classes. This recognition makes Quake on the Lake one of the fastest one-mile race courses in the country.
Quake on the lake is an event for the entire family, featuring more than boat races, with a full concert lineup, a Michigan wine and beer tasting, a classic car show, carnival rides and the DIA Away program.
The event kicks off on Friday, July 22 with the Michigan wine and beer tasting, including local beer and wines, live music and a silent auction. Pre-sale tickets and special pricing are available until July 10.
For the first time ever, the APBA has awarded Quake on the Lake the Summer National Championship site for three years in a row: 2014, 2015 and 2016!
Ticket prices are available in day passes and are as follows: general admission for children 5-12 years old is $5.00. Adults 13 an up are $10.00. Family packs can be purchased as well. You have the option to add a visit to the race pits to your ticket purchase, an opportunity you won’t want to miss!
Pack up your beach towels, sunscreen and your lawn chairs, blankets and umbrellas. You’ll want to fully enjoy the sand and the sun while at the event! Don’t forget your binoculars and a camera to capture the action.
